oh i don't think zvis post was a specific reference to that. i think it was expressing "letting people talk to each other gives (possibly european?) bureaucrats the ability to fine you at their discretion"

yeah i don't think it was a reference to that either but if it's still the same type of thing then it's not the type of thing i'd expect him to mention with zero elaboration

i guess the intent was never to provide a good service but rather to have other people provide you the free service of testing your software so i shouldnt be expecting otherwise

Re: slatestarcodex
Aella is getting roasted for that showered stat with everyone appalled that she doesn't shower every day.
But now I'm curious, do you guys actually shower every day? I used to shower every weekday when I had to go into the office but nowadays I'm down to like 3-4 per week. I told this to my aunt once and she looked at me like she just discovered I was a cockroach.
Re: slatestarcodex
3-4 per week sounds pretty normal to me, except in the summer.
three times a month does not sound normal to me, that sounds disgusting!

Re: slatestarcodex
I do know some people who can get away with showering less often, it's a real thing. Not once every 10 days though, holey moley
Re: slatestarcodex
I think I could pull it off if I lived alone, but only because I have and use a bidet (Aella also does). I would need to cut back on my social schedule though, I would be uncomfortable going anywhere socially without showering first.

Re: slatestarcodex
I've gone mega-bachelor before, sure, I know what that's like. After about a week, though, it's not even about other people, it's about feeling disgusting and itchy in my own skin.
Hygiene is not just about being polite, it's self-care! The only time I remember my shower schedule disintegrating to anything close to Aella's was during a couple of months when I was very depressed, and actively trying to shut out reality as much as possible.

I'm feeling uncomfortable just thinking about it. I'm off to have a bath.

Hey if it works for you and the people smelling you, that's cool!
Except brushing your teeth. You should do that daily, dental health is important!

Re: slatestarcodex
keeping your teeth clean actually has little to do with like the teeth itself and more to do with like not having a stroke. it's a vector for some pretty fucked up shit. i think if you don't want to brush your teeth / have good healthy teeth or whatever the thing to do there would be to just remove them, but then you'd still have to deal with the gums and the potential for bacteria food and bad shit happening thereSkeletor wrote:is it though? if you don't eat any sugar?
but then maybe you could just like sew your mouth together and get all of your food through a tube directly into your stomach. but i'll bet even then the awful mouth would still be up to shit somehow
edit - of course not having a filling / abscessed teeth and the pain associated with that or whatever is p important too
Re: slatestarcodex
it's really neat the way all of that works like how the jaw is like super weirdly reliant on you eating things and doing awful shit to it because as soon as you pull teeth or whatever and stop putting that impact into it it just gives up and withers away
Re: slatestarcodex
i shower most days because i exercise most days; on the occasional days that i do not exercise i usually do not shower
